INTRODUCTION:
This course has been developed as a Certificate III apprenticehip course that aligns to the CPC08 Construction, Plumbing and Services Integrated Framework Training Package. It is a course developed to meet the declared trades legislation of WA and to meet the needs of the plumbing and gasfitting industry.

This course will provide the learner with practical skills and knowledge to carry out plumbing and gas fitting applications in both the commercial and domestic sectors of the industry.

Plumbing and gasfitting is a declared trade in WA and the Plumber's Licensing Board will issue a Tradesperson's Certificate on successful completion of the course.

In addition, Energy Safety will issue a Class G gas fitting permit to meet the requirements of the trade.

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge to advance into the plumbing trade. You will learn how to safely install, alter, and repair pipework services and appliances to suit domestic, commercial and industrial needs. You will also learn about cold and hot water supply, gas supply, sewage, waste and rainwater disposal, how to install and repair roofing, gutters and drain pipes, and how to make buildings waterproof. You will also learn about safe working practices.

This course is a 4 year apprenticeship which will give you the practical skills and knowledge to repair plumbing and gas fitting applications in both the residential and commercial sectors of the plumbing industry.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENT:

Must be a registered apprentice with the ApprentiCentre.

COURSE CONTENT:

Work effectively in the plumbing and services sector - Gas Legislation and Safety and Combustion
Carry out interactive workplace communication
Carry out levelling
Carry out OH&S requirements
Fabricate and install non-ferrous pressure piping
Flash penetrations through roofs and walls
Handle and store plumbing materials
Mark out materials
Read plans and calculate plumbing quantities
Use plumbing hand and power tools
Weld plastic pipe using fusion method
Weld using arc welding equipment
Weld using oxy-acetylene equipment
Apply first aid in the workplace
Install below ground sanitary drainage systems
Install domestic treatment plants
Install on-site disposal systems
Install stormwater and sub-soil drainage systems
Locate and clear blockages
Plan the layout for a residential sanitary drainage system
Fabricate and install fire hydrant and hose reel systems
Calculate and install natural ventilation for Type A gas appliances
Install a Type A appliance flue
Install and commission Type A gas appliances
Install gas detection devices
Install gas piping systems
Install gas pressure control equipment
Install LP gas storage of aggregate storage capacity up to 500 litres
Install LP gas systems in caravans/mobile homes, water craft and mobile workplaces
Install subsidiary gas meters
Plan, size and layout consumer gas installations
Purge consumer piping
Size consumer piping systems
Fabricate and install roof drainage components
Work safely on roofs
Fabricate and install sanitary stacks
Install and fit off sanitary fixtures
Install discharge pipes
Plan layout of a residential external drainage system
Plan layout of a residential sanitary plumbing system
Install pre-treatment facilities
Connect irrigation systems from drinking water supply
Fit off and commission hot and cold water services
Install and adjust water service controls and devices
Install and commission water heating systems
Set out and install water services

Carry out simple concreting and rendering
Cut and join sheet metal
Cut with oxy-LPG/acetylene
Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding

Details of the course tuition and administration fees are available upon request. Fee reductions are available for students providing proof of approved concession upon enrolment.

Applications for Concession cards are to be made through Centrelink. MPA Skills will supply supporting documentation on request.

This course is AUSTUDY, ABSTUDY and YOUTH ALLOWANCE approved.


RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL):

MPA Skills can provide RPL as any prior learning can result in the awarding of credit for a unit of competency or for a whole course.
