About this Course:
This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge
to work effectively in the plumbing and services sector. You will
learn skills in using plumbing hand and power tools, cutting and
joining sheet metal, marking out materials, welding using oxy-acetylene
and arc welding equipment and fabrictaing and installing non-ferrous
pressure piping. You will also learn about OH&S requirements,
reading plans and calculating plumbing quantities and handling and
storing plumbing materials as well as undertaking specific projects.
As part of this course you will undertake a supervised work placement
where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have
learned.
Pre-apprentice course graduates will need to be indentured by an
employer before they can go on to training as an apprentice in the
Plumbing and Gasfitting trade area. However, pre-apprentice course
graduates can expect to have an improved chance of gaining an apprenticeship
as they have already covered up to 1 year of the "off-the-job"
training component of a relevant apprenticeship.
Clothing:
All students must provide own appropriate work attire, including
safety boots.
Work Boots: All student workboots are provided in the materials
fees. Students should purchase the text.
Tools: All tools and equipment are provided - students should purchase
their own tools at the mid point of the course (prior to work placement
and satisfactory progress).
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENT:
Completion of Year 11 or 12 with sound Maths and English. Applicants
are short listed and are required to attend our offices for an interview
and aptitude test before being accepted on the course. Work experience
in the related field is highly recommended.
COURSE DURATION:
15 weeks full-time (600 hours). There are three intakes a year
(January, May and August).

Details of the course tuition and administration fees are available upon request. Fee reductions are available for students providing concession cards OR are under the age of 18 (birth certificate to be sighted).

This course is YOUTH ALLOWANCE, AUSTUDY and ABSTUDY approved.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL):
MPA Skills can provide RPL as any prior learning can result in
the awarding of credit for a unit of competency or for a whole course.
Under the guidelines for mutual recognition, any relevant competencies
achieved through previous training can be credited against our courses.
